DescriptionThe Lodge is built within the coastal forest just behind the forested dunes that occur along Maputaland's coastline. Accommodation is in 11 wooden tree-house chalets, which are raised on stilts into the forest canopy. Each twin-bedded room has its own private deck, en suite bathroom and an additional outdoor shower, for those who wish to bathe surrounded by trees. A boardwalk winds from the lodge, through the dune forest and down to the beach. Each chalet offers guests total seclusion, tranquility and time to relax and enjoy the surrounds of the forest. There is one family chalet with one main room, and a second room with two single beds. DININGIn the evening, snacks are enjoyed at the bar or around the fireplace where lively conversation of the day’s events, sightings and tall fisherman tales are told. Under a giant Natal Mahogany tree, traditional home made cuisine can be enjoyed, be it breakfast, lunch or the sociable dinners – often entertained by the thick-tailed bushbabies bouncing around the buffet. Using only the freshest ingredients, Rocktail caters for everyone’s dietary needs. THE FOREST DECKThe Lodge’s centre is where everyone can relax, eat, drink and swim. The lounge area is cosy, with comfortable couches, a laden bookshelf – just right to settle down with a book and a cup of coffee or tea – and delicious home-baked cake at teatime. Along a short path, past the fireplace, is the open bar area. Adjoining it is a wine cellar featuring top wines and spirits. Then there’s the curio or souvenir shop, with a variety of locally made goods as well as T-shirts and toy turtles are for sale. Rates

DirectionsThe easiest way to get to the Lodge is by air. Guests wishing to fly in will be met at the airstrip which is located just outside the reserve. Guests who have their own 4X4 vehicles can drive straight to the lodge.Comprehensive directions and a map are given to all guests prior to departure. Please make sure you have these with you. Access to Rocktail Bay in an ordinary saloon vehicle is on tar roads with the last 5km being on a gravel/sand road to the Coastal Cashew Farm. guests can securely park their vehicles at the farm and Wilderness staff will collect them and convey them to the lodge in an open 4X4 game vehicle. DIRECTIONS TO ROCKTAIL BAY LODGE FROM JOHANNESBURG As a direct route, we recommend taking the N12 in the direction of Witbank. Take the Ogies/Balmoral off-ramp and continue through the town of Ogies. In Ogies turn right and continue on the R545 to and through the town of Bethal to Ermelo. In Ermelo take the N2 to Piet Retief, Pongola and south towards Mkuze town. The N2 takes you past the Jozini Dam. At about 52-55kms beyond Pongola lookout for a left-hand turn signposted “Jozini, Ndumo & Sodwana Bay”, this is about 10kms before the town of Mkuze. NOTE THAT FROM HERE THIS IS A BUSY STRETCH OF ROAD WITH PEOPLE, CATTLE, GOATS AND SHEEP CROSSING AT RANDOM • From this turnoff (off the N2) the road climbs up the Lebombo Mountains to the town of Jozini (Approx. 18 kms). • Please allow 2 to 3 hours travelling time from Jozini to Rocktail Bay Lodge • Measuring from the Jozini 24-hour BP garage (no petrol cards accepted and sometimes no petrol!) take the left fork outside of town that leads over the Jozini Dam wall. (DO NOT TAKE THE SODWANA BAY ROAD TO YOUR RIGHT) • After about 39kms on a tar road you come to a T-Junction. At this T-Junction, turn right on the tar road (left goes to Ingwavuma). • From this T-Junction, it is about 10kms to the veterinary control gate. • Continue from the veterinary control gate on the tar road for approximately 32kms until you reach a traffic circle this is known as Phelindaba. Here you will see a green & white sign reading “R22 Mbazwana 45, Hluhluwe 126” to the right, there is also a brown signboard with white writing indicating “Coastal Forest 61kms” to the right. – TURN RIGHT HERE • Continue on this tar road for about 15kms from the traffic circle (Phelindaba) going straight over a 2nd traffic circle until you see a brown tourism sign with white writing “Manzengwenya & Coastal Forest Reserve”. There is also a Brown & White “Info Lapa” signboard - Turn left here onto a gravel road. • Travel for approximately 5 km on the gravel road at which point you will see a sign board and entrance gate to Coastal Cashews on your Right Hand side. Turn right here and enter through the gate to the farm COASTAL CASHEWS, where a Rocktail Bay representative will meet you and show you where to park your vehicle. The scheduled transfers for those arriving in two-wheel drive vehicles are at 10h30; 14h00 and 16h00 daily from Coastal Cashews.
